Written steps to “dip” your car badge
Equipment needed : Plasti Dip aerosol, masking tape, newspaper, toothpick
The easiest way to change the colour of your car badge is so to use an aerosol of Plasti Dip to spray it. The great advantage of using Plasti Dip is that if you apply it without a primer it will last for many years, BUT can be peeled off without damaging what’s underneath when you want to take the car back to its original spec. Plasti Dip aerosols come in many colours and you can also apply a finish if you want something other than the matt look which you’ll get ordinarily.
- Thoroughly clean the badge and the area around it to ensure it is free of grease and contaminants (like squashed insects!)
- Mask off an area around the badge using tape and paper
- Check your aerosol is running clear by spraying a scrap of paper. This is particularly important if you have already used the can before.
- Apply several light coats allowing about 15 minutes between coats
- If you want you can apply Glossifier or Pearliser to create a bespoke finish
- Once fully dry, carefully peel off the excess Plasti Dip around the badge using a toothpick to get in between letters.
- If there’s Plasti Dip left in the can (There probably will be) invert the can and spray it upside down until the nozzle runs clear, this will stop it getting bunged up.
- You’re done!

Feedback from our customers on dipping badges
Jason Rudkin says: “IF I CAN DO IT, THEN ANYONE CAN. I needed to freshen up my Range Rover logo at the front of my car, it was looking faded and tired. I had considered taking the car to a body shop but whilst searching Youtube, I came across videos showing how to plasti dip. I followed the instructions, cleaned the area thoroughly and made sure it was dry. I masked the area up as shown and sprayed as shown. I did 6 coats and on the last coat I literally peeled off the plasti dip carefully using a tooth pick and the job was done. I was really surprised how easy and rewarding doing this was. It really is that easy and I have never used a spray can before, this stuff is easy to apply and the result is fantastic.”
Peter Redford says: “I used the plasti dip on my car to change my badges to Red on my Red Edition Seat Ibiza FR.”
Sam says: “Brilliant product, great coverage and dried very well even being outside in coldish weather, I used this product to change the colour of my badge on my work van and to dress up some tired looking black plastic trim and it came out looking spot on.”
Neil Oswin says: “Very easy to use, not much masking up to do as any overspray can rubbed off by hand. Paint has a rubberized feel/texture to it once it’s dried so doesn’t chip or crack like ordinary paint. Minimum prep required before use, just make sure surface is clean and dry with no grease!”
Steve Borwell says: “Used this to change the colour of the badges on my car. Worked really well even on the tricky small letters too.”
John Sanders says: “Excellent product easy to apply, easy to remove.. recommended! Utilised to cover my Son’s VW rear badge .. he didn’t like it chromed”
Want to spray more of your car?
You can spray parts of your car (such as wheels or wing mirrors) or an entire car. For whole car dips we recommend using our sprayable mix and an industrial sprayer rather than an aerosol. If you don’t have access to an industrial sprayer there are several approved Prodippers across the UK who will do the job for you. You can find your nearest by heading to prodipper.co.uk
Also we have a peer support group on Facebook which is great for sharing ideas and picking the brains of other Plasti Dip customers. You can find it here https://www.facebook.com/groups/359608391116705/
