Some interesting trends have emerged during lockdown. People are baking more and sleeping better and we also know spending on alcohol has gone up, whilst we are growing our own in the garden too. In this post we share a DIY project that combines the last two, wine and grow your own!
If you are lucky enough to have had your bottles delivered in a wooden box this project is perfect for you, but don’t worry if you haven’t, as you can still get one delivered by buying online (empty though I’m afraid!)
Making a planter from a winebox might sound straight forward, but we want to show you how you can make one that will look great and last a long time too and doing so will require three products. One we sell and the other two are sold by our sister site pintyplus.co.uk. If you decide to order both you can always give us a call to place your order so that we can combine postage costs.
What you’ll need
- Plasti Dip aerosol (we used Anthracite Grey)
- Pintyplus Home (we used Ancient Klein)
- Pintyplus Home varnish (in the video we use one from the Art range, but there is one in the Home range too)
- Drill
- Masking tape
- Newspaper
- Face mask for painting (or a well-ventilated space)
How to do it
- Drill a few holes in the bottom of your wine box to allow for drainage
- Use masking tape and newspaper to cover the sides of the box leaving the top surface clear.
- Test your Plasti Dip aerosol on a piece of newspaper to check the nozzle is clear and then spray the inside of the box to completely waterproof it. Apply two coats leaving 20 minutes between coats
- Remove masking tape and newspaper and turn the box over
- Spray the outside with Pintyplus Home, giving two light coats. Allow to dry
- To protect apply a coat of Pintyplus varnish
