We were recently contacted by one of our customers Eric Grant, who shared some great photos of a restoration project he had initiated in Scotland.
Trig points or Triangulation Stations were erected on top of prominent hills and mountains by the Ordnance Survey in the late 1930s . Although now no longer used, these concrete pillars are still an important part of the nation’s history.
The trig point on top of Ben Rinnes in the North East of Scotland had fallen into a sorrowful state and so Eric decided it was time to give it a makeover…
Eric takes up the story…
“I enlisted the help of a couple of my friends to help with the task in hand. We managed to cement up all the cracks as you’ll see in the pictures. I wanted to protect the trig point from the weather and searched online for a suitable type of paint. This was where I found your company Plasti Dip. Alison put me in contact with Peter in sales who advised me on what I would need.
I had 4 trips walking up to the top of Ben Rinnes to paint the trig point. On the first two trips the trig point was wet so it was no use for painting. On the third trip it was dry so I managed to give it two good coats of Plasti Dip. I went up again at the weekend and gave it a third and final coat.
It certainly looks a lot better now that what it was to start with. I hope the Plastidip helps to protect it and keep it looking good for years to come.”
Eric recently went back to see the Trig Point in snowy conditions and we love this photo he caught of his daughter’s cockapooo Cindy!
